Boxer / Mixed (short coat) Dog

Fitz the Dog needs a home

We were on a call with a member of our SC team when she saw Fitz running along the highway. He was clearly hurt and she stopped to help him, but was worried he would not come to her and possibly flee into traffic. Thankfully, Fitz’s friendly, good nature allowed him to trust, and she was able to get him into her car and to the vet for immediate care.  Fitz had been attacked by an animal, and had  puncture wounds all around his neck. He spent a week at the vet getting healthy, and has now transitioned to his foster home.

Fitz was fostered with 3 other dogs, and had some fear/hesitation around the other larger dog in the home, His SC foster mom did a very gradual introduction to her pack, and feels that Fitz wants to befriend other animals, but is uncertain and frightened of larger dogs. Whatever attacked him meant him harm and he’s still learning to trust. Fitz is a young, active pup with more of a calm, moderate energy level indoors, but needs an owner committed to his daily exercise and playtime.

Fitz likes all people, especially women and kids, and is a very affectionate dog who wants to snuggle.  He’s crate trained and has not had any accidents in his crate as he’s settling into home life, so he's on the right path. More to come on this sweet boy as we learn more about him.

FOSTER UPDATE 12/30/17

Our handsome boy, Fitz, spent his Christmas break in Florida with his foster parents. He was excellent in the car for the road trip, and has been spending his days walking the beach, playing with the family kids he adores, and being a proper house guest to the little yappy dog he’s sharing some holiday time with.

Fitz’s foster parents have been working with him to teach him the rules of home life. He’s now fully housetrained, knows sit, and they’ve discovered his love of chew toys and playing fetch. Like a lot of dogs who were chained and are new to walking on a leash, Fitz has some reactivity on leash towards other dogs. We have brought in a trainer to work with Fitz and his foster parents to address, and he'll need a dedicated owner to continue his training and settle him in.

Mostly, he is an incredibly sweet and loving pup who will make an incredible family dog and companion for the kids.
